I have a 1991 250 4x4 cummings diesel with regulator on fire wall. The more power i use the higher the voltage goes up [lights, heater etc]. I just put a new voltage regulator in and when i turn everything on it goes to 15.5 volts. Then my eletronic speedometer quits....i think the volage go's to high and speedometer shuts down. i just got a speeding ticket. Need Help!

It sounds like you either have a floating ground, which causes the regulator to keep increasing demand on the alternator as you put more load on the system, or a broken battery terminal wire. Trace back all your alternator and battery leads to be certain that everything is sound, then check the mount on the regulator to be sure it is properly attached with a good ground.

Pay particular attention to the wires underneath the power distribution center, and at the plug end of the regulator. Look for any wires that are elastic. What has likely happened is a wire has broken and is keeping the battery voltage from properly being captured by the regulator.

If this is not the problem, then check the diodes in the alternator. If by chance you have jump started someone with your key on or the engine running, you may have blown soldier out of one of the bridges and causing it to self-ground and keep increasing power as the demand increases.
