Voltage Regulator... HELP
Voltage Regulator... HELP
The ranch truck at the ranch I work at is a 92' CTD 4X2, started eating batteries, more specifically melting batteries. First thought was the alternator went ****-up, but it test fine and according to the alternator shop Dodge moved the voltage regulator from the alternator into the computer, does this sound correct? They are saying the only way to fix it is a new computer!! Lot of money for a very ruff truck. Would it be possible to install an inline regulator?? Any help would be great, I don't know such about 1St Gens. but this truck still has alot of miles left in the motor.
Thanks,
BP

On some '92's the voltage regulator is on the firewall above the valve covers, on others it's in the SMEC. In the books it says it's in the SMEC, but I had a friend with one that was a 92 with it on the firewall.
If you have one with it on the firewall, you can do it in 2 minutes for 10 bucks. I'm not sure what an SMEC costs, but that is not too bad a job to do. Good luck with it.
