Valve spring pressure???

I was told a year ago when I had my HG replaced by a shop that they installed heavy duty valves springs in my head ( I was charged for them). I had another HG go last week and I am having the head surfaced right now. The machine shop is going to check the pressure on my springs but needed a pressure number to reference against the springs that are in their now? Anyone know what 60lb springs would be at installed height? And what would stock be?

And where is a good place to get upgraded valve springs if I need them? I ordered a 4K spring kit so I want to make sure I have all the good stuff...

Thanks so much.....

Dave

if you ordered the 4k the same place should carry the 60lbs springs . as for install height it would be the same as stock springs because the valve stem groove where the clips lock would not move. hope this helps

I do not have a manual handy, but the 60lb spring is fatter in the middle than the ends, wear as the stock spring is straight. It is also taller.
Cummins is the best place to get them.

He's asking for the force the spring would apply at the installed height.

Thanks Mike, that is what I am trying to ask..... I need to see if the springs I have now are the 60 lbs. But the machine shop is not diesel experts and needed some number to reference the current springs. I don't want to purchase new springs if I don't have to.

Thanks...

Dave

According to my manual the stock valve springs should have somewhere between 80.7 and 89.2 lbs of force when compressed to a height of 1.94".
Approximate free length should be 2.262"

if you want to run the 4k gsk kit it needs to be all twelve. only need six if you are just going to run an exhaust brake.
