You need to go get your self an "Easy Button". I'm only kidding...How deep is it broken off?

To be honest I have never broken one off on one of these engines. I have broken them off on big block Dodges before. I had plenty of access to strain and plenty of room to throw vice grips when I broke easy outs and room to yell obscenities when I broke the skin on my knuckles. Have you considered using an easy out?

I haven't removed one from a Cummins, but I've removed alot of broken bolts. One method is to get a good center punch and get a dimple started in the center of the broken fastener. Then get a good set of left-hand drills, and select the correct size (be sure to clear the threads) and drill it out. (Be sure your drill is in the REVERSE position.) Often the heat of drilling and the counter-clockwise rotation will just turn the broken piece out.

If you ever break a bolt off and it's protruding out even a little bit you put a nut OVER the broken bolt and weld the nut to the bolt. You can do it with a stick welder but a wire machine makes it much easier. As soon as you're done welding pour cold water over the nut/broken bolt, then wrench it out.

You can even get special rods for this type of application. An 11080 rod works pretty good. It has more tensile strength then the common 7018.
