Vacuum Pump

I have the vacuum pump off, re-sealed, and am trying to get it back on. It won't line up! I can not rotate the gear on teh end of the vacuum pump, should it be this tight? I think it was tight before I tore it down, but I am starting to wonder. It acts like the gear is about 1/2 of a tooth off to line up the bolt holes. Is there a trick to this that I am missing?

Never mind. Mental note - don't let buddy attach power steering pump to vacuum pump. He might miss teh boss fit and just tighten the bolts until something breaks.

I have assistants that do that too, they love to torque to 1000 ft lbs.
