truck won't start
truck won't start
Been having trouble starting my truck in the cold (below 20f) all winter if its not plugged in. Changed fuel filter 3 days ago. It has also been cranking longer for all starts(4 or 5 turns instead of usual 3). Would not start at all this a.m. I don't have a fp gauge but I get fuel out of the test port on the ip, and I can hear the lp running. no codes stored. any help???
First thing I would check is the intake air heaters. There are 2 heaters and 2 solinoids thet get power from the drivers side batt. Sometimes the wires that go to the batt get corroded and the heater stops working. The next thing to check is for air leaks in the fuel supply lines. Your truck is getting old enough to start having those problems. If a hose looks questionable, just replace it, it's cheap. The next thing to check is the condition of the batts. If they are original they may be getting weak and not cranking the motor fast enough. Do a volt check while cranking. Should be 10.5 or above while cranking, and a fast recovery to 12.3 within 10 sec. If it falls short, replace the batts.
Good morning- thanks for the reply!!! The batts were my first thought. I replaced them last month. The grid heaters appear to be working. I didn't volt them but the lights dim and brighten OK. It was 55f here yesterday and it won't start at all. I am on my way out to the driveway to get started, I will let you know what I find. Thanks again
