Truck won't start
Truck won't start
Howdy hoping y'all can point me in the right direction.

Went to start the truck this morning, wait to start light went out and it just clicked. Upon trying the second time I notice that the voltmeter in the dash would pull down below 8 volt while waiting for the wait to start light went out.

I tried jump starting it with no sucess. Still the same problem.

I had my starter rebuilt maybe 2 months ago and the batteries are maybe 18 months old.

Any sugestions?

Thanks, Brian
Re:Truck won't start
If your batteries are dead it will take some real good jumper cables and a real strong battery. I had my battery die at about 16 months and my buddy with a half ton pickup could not jump me off because it was cold. I had two guys both with good batterys try to jump me off at the same time, would not fire. So I went and bought a new battery and put it in and it fired up went home and charged it overnight. I would have those batterys tested. Hope this helps.
Re:Truck won't start
Check ALL the connections at the batteries. You may have been running on only one battery for a while. As far as jumping it, if you don't allow the batteries some time to charge up you won't get it to do much. It does sound like a bad connection to me though.
Let us know
Tom
Re:Truck won't start
Thanks both for the sugestions.
Turns out that the batteries were close to three years old. (manage to dig up the receipt) Went and got two new ones and it fired right up. I guess the little honda accord that I was trying to use to jump it just didn't have enought juice. Even having the cables hooked up and running for five or so minutes. There pretty beefy cables 2 guage I think.
So now that it is running again I noticed that on the in dash volt meter sits right about 14 volts when running. Upon starting it drags it down to the white hash mark between 8 and 14 volts. Does this sound right? I know it takes a lot of juice to start these trucks. Just hopping that it was just dead batteries and not a short or something else!
Thanks again for the help

Re:Truck won't start
Right after you start it the grid heater runs again and pulls down the voltage for a few seconds. I get a Check Gauges light in my cluster first thing upon startup because the volt meter isn't reading what is it supposed to, due to the grid heater. Voltage goes up and the Check Gauges light goes out when the grid heater cuts off.

Chris
