hey man, i'm telling you what to do. "compression test".

this will tell you if it's rings. cheapest way to tell if it's real blowby or a vacumn pump issue like infidel mentioned.

any diesel shop can do it.

Go back and read infidel's post. Just because all the vacuum powered stuff works does not mean there is no leak. Get a Mityvac type pump and check the system for leaks before dismissing this possibility.

saw an 04 with a little over a 100k on it with real bad blowbye . he ran a cheaper oil filter and caused scouring on the no. 1 cylinder. if you are running a lesser quality filter then that maybe your problem. i watched them check without a compression test by cranking the moter but not letting it start not sure how they did that but they did. ifs its one cylinder that is bad you might be able to hone it out and put new rings in it other then that you will have to pull the motor new short block runs about 4k. good luck

If you're SURE you have a reputable mechanic and he said your motor is toast, then what are you looking for here? a place to buy a new motor? A compression test is cheap and easy to do. If you chose not to, hey its your truck!
