The latest with my sad saga.
The Cummins dealer could not fix the problem as they did not have anything to read the codes. I then had the truck towed to the local five star Dodge dealer. He kept the truck for the entire day and then at 5 p.m. informed me that they did not have the diagnostic tools to read the codes on my truck!!!!!! I got mad and told him that I brought my truck to him as a 5 star dealer expecting him to have everything to fix the vehicles they sell. He did not have anything to say, but asked to be given a bit more time, like till noon tomorrow.
He then had the nerve to tell me that they "think" the pump is the culprit.
Sooner or later I am going to need a new PS3, so whether I need one now or not, I am going to order one immediately. Can anyone recommend a good supplier at a decent price?
I am surprised that no DTR member has jumped in with a few decent suggestions as to the cause of my problem I can understand something like a relief valve causing a no start, but what will cause the engine to just quit dead while driving. No miss firing, no hesitation, it just quit like I turned the switch off.

I know you're one of the old school members here, but from what I could tell we were all helping out to the best of our knowledge. I mean we're all not exactly in Mexico at the moment to drop by. From what I can see we all DID try to lead you in the most probable direction LACK OF FUEL TO THE INJECTORS!

They dealers sound like a joke, never heard of one without a Starscan.
Also, a PS3 is a game console, you probably meant CP3.

Hmm, excuse you?

I know it is lack of fuel to the injectors. I figured that out myself 10 minutes after it died, but what are all the possible causes of this sudden lack of fuel?
I am tired, frustrated and irritated, so will use that as my stupid mistake calling this pump a PS3. Yes, I meant a CP3
I do not know if they do not have a Starscan or what. The service manager told me that they could not read the codes and that is all I know. He did tell me that this engine and truck model is new in Mexico and that is why they did not have all the tools yet. I thought a 5 star dealer was expected to have all the tools necessary to fix all the products they sold?

Recently I lost the water pump, so that may be a couple of those codes. I also had my Scottie out and started the engine, so that may have caused another code. I also have a ScanGage and that showed 107, 073 and 192. Now that the Cummins dealer has messed with it I can't find any codes.
I can see the relief valve causing a hard or no start, but is it possible for it to cause an engine to just quit?
Good point. I wasn't really thinking it through.
The best bet here would be to find some kind of scan tool to allow you to see the rail pressure and commanded rail pressure. If the truck is not commanding rail pressure = no start. I would not throw any parts at this truck until I saw that it was commanding RP. It seems you might have a sensor power or ground problem with the multiple codes you had ealier. These codes also could cause no RP. By the way call your dealer and find out if they have a DRB 3 because last I knew star scan cannot communicate with that year, at least thats the way it is with mine. Also if you know or trust any other technicans with a different scan tool they might also be able to communicate with your truck, something like OTC, Snap On, etc.
I talked with mexstan last night. We went thru some scenarios that he will hopefully get a chance to check out real soon. FYI.....for some of you guys that have a questionable rail pressure sensor, you can simply unplug it and that will command max rail pressure. I wouldn't drive it much that way, but at least you could tell if that was an issue. I also told him how to check the rail relief valve, and to make sure that the CP3 drive gear is actually turning with the engine. That would be pretty far fetched , but it is free and easy to check! Hopefully Stan will report back with findings soon!

This is the Thursday story:
Went to the 5 star Dodge dealer with a tow truck and took my truck back and now have it at home. They were still trying to get it going when I arrived.
Just to be on the ultra safe side I plugged the pressure relief valve and tried to start it. Nothing. Then I unplugged the pressure sensor and the fuel pump and tried again. It spins over really fast, but will not even try to fire.
Sounds to me more and more like the pump. Time is against me for ordering a new pump as the suppliers are now closed. I did reach US diesel but they were out of stock.
Any more suggestions as to what to try and where to buy a pump? Even if it is not the pump, I have decided to keep one as a spare anyway.

Forgot to mention something. About a 1000 miles ago, the engine would stumble bit and the check engine light would come on. After a few starts or overnight, it would go out until the next stumble. When the engine briefly quit about 700 miles ago, but caught again after I floored it, it dieseled horribly for a few seconds but from then on ran normally. The check engine light came on at that time too but was off the next morning.
When I took the truck to the dealer there were no codes on the odometer. Now that I have been fiddling with it I have two codes, 251 and 193. Both codes also show up on my cheap code scanner. I suspect the 251 code is because I have the pump wire disconnected. The 193 code could be because I have the fuel press sensor wire unplugged.

I did check this out. Was hoping against hope that it was something as simple as this. There does not appear to be any way the wires could rub on mine as they are very well secured. In any case I moved everything and looked at the wires with a good light, but could see zero evidence of any chaffing anywhere.
