Transmission Acting Up?
Transmission Acting Up?
I recently installed a edge with attitude and havent been over 3 (drive mode).
Today I get in my truck and randomly it seems to rev up before the truck starts to move. When I was parked on a hill it reved around 1600 before really moving. (it doesnt feel normal when going uphill)
I bought the truck as/is a few months ago and the owner had the transmission rebuilt. The fluid was also changed but the dipstick has never been quite right to check the fluid. When I check it, it shows that the fluid is way above the "S" in the line but theres no way that its that full. It also feels like im pushing the dipstick in to far and hitting something.
The fluid is red/new and looks to be in great condition and also smells fine.
I added 1/2 quart mopar +4 to the fluid and for the first 1/2 mile or so it wouldnt shift out of first so I dont think its low fluid.
It slips alot when I start out going uphill such as the drive way or a hill. Anyone had this problem before?

My dipstick is messed up so its hard to check it. (it reads really high ... where the S part of the stick is but thats normal cause I dont think its the right dip stick) I did add 1/2 a quart and then my transmission wouldnt shift. I guess I can try adding some more? ill do that shortly.
P1757-GOV PRESS ABOVE 3 PSI IN GEAR WITH 0 MPH
P1762-GOV PRESS SEN OFFSET VOLTS TOO LO OR HIGH
1693 just says that there is a code in the PCM. Sounds like you'll need to drop the pan and replace the governor pressure solenoid and transducer. Probably have around 200 in the parts ( including new filter and gasket and fluid). Also would be a really good idea to adjust the bands while you're in there too. You could replace just the solenoid , or just the transducer, but when I have to drop the pan, I do both. You would have to have a scanner to know for sure which one was causing the problem as well!

Drop the pan, remove the filter, then on the pass side there is like 4 or 5 7/16 bolts and 3 or 4 T25 torx screws. Rmove the connectors on the solenoid and sensor, then take all those screws and bolts out. Remove the little housing ( it will almost fall off) then basically just remove the sensor and solenoid and replce. Try to keep everything clean as possible of course!
Thanks again.
When the problem first started I added fluid. Which then caused the tranny not to shift at least for a few blocks or so. Then everything was fine (I assume it leaked out the excees fluid) Could it be that im throwing this code because I over filled the tranny?
Im just always trying to learn new stuff about how cars work. Thanks for any input!

It could, maybe if it were high enough to cause foaming, but I doubt it. Theese parts are common failures so......without a scan tool, or a properly working dipstick, it's gonna be hard to tell. However, if I were a betting man, I'd replace the parts!
I know..you have been right 100% of the time so Im ordering the stuff replace what you suggested.
I think I have everything I need to do the swap.

No problem! Did your parts supplier say anything about the bolts? If you already have the reusable gasket you should be fine, but IIRC there is a new part number for a set of bolts to go with the reusable gasket. ( the part number you listed is reusable) I also think I have reused the old bolts and wasn't a problem, just curious. I put some (new bolts) in the last one I did.
I took the pan off today to familiarize myself with what im working on. If I understand correctly. I disconnect harness, remove and replace the pressure sensor (black box similar to a relay on the right).
To replace the gov (silver round piece on the left) I remove the 5 bolts, remove the bracket, remove the gov and replace with the new one. Does it have a specific way it goes in?
It looks really easy to do!

Im not sure if thats a reusable gasket but heres a picture of the bolts and the gasket. The gasket has a number 22300 I dont think thats factory. Should I use RTV silicone to seal it?

The bands im not so sure about. I am newbie mechanic that is learning more and more every day. My transmission was suppose to be rebuilt about 2 months ago when I bought it but who knows. Is there a link or a tutorial on adjusting the bands? How difficult is that.

I was able to find this information on the bands
FRONT BAND
The front (kickdown) band adjusting screw is located on the left side of the transmission case above the manual valve and throttle valve levers.
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut (Fig. 64). Then back locknut off 3-5 turns. Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in case. Apply lubricant to screw threads if necessary.
3. Tighten band adjusting screw to 8 N·m (72 in. lbs.) torque with Inch Pound Torque Wrench C-3380-A, a 3-in. extension and appropriate Torx socket. CAUTION: If Adapter C-3705 is needed to reach the adjusting screw, tighten the screw to only 5 N·m (47-50 in. lbs.) torque.
4. Back off front band adjusting screw 3 turns.
5. Hold adjuster screw in position and tighten locknut to 41 N·m (30 ft. lbs.) torque.
6. Lower vehicle.
REAR BAND
The transmission oil pan must be removed for access to the rear band adjusting screw.
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove transmission oil pan and drain fluid.
3. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut 5-6 turns (Fig. 65). Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in lever.
4. Tighten adjusting screw to 8 N·m (72 in. lbs.) torque.
5. Back off adjusting screw 4 turns.
6. Hold adjusting screw in place and
7. Position new gasket on oil pan and install pan on transmission. Tighten pan bolts to 17 N·m (13 ft. lbs.) torque.
8. Lower vehicle and refill transmission with Mopart ATF +4, type 9602, fluid.

Sounds like you got it all figured out! No special way to put those pieces in, I just try to orientate them to the way that I took them out. As for the new gasket you bought from Dodge, it should be a hard rubber one with a steel insert. The one that is shown on the pan is not reusable its cork.
