the transfer pump just went on my '01 dodge. 120 000 km and the filter was black as coal. is there anything else I should look for ?

 

The filter will look black due to the diesel fuel. That is not a good indicator that it was or could be dirty. Make sure you clean out the filter or was there any metal or sand in the bottom. Also wipe off the WIF sensor. Get your new pump from Cummins.
