Trans Temp Light

Coming home with my empty trailer goin up a slight upgrade it just kicked out of overdrive and the trans temp lite came on,check EGT and Boost they where both low EGT-850 Boost-22,drove on home (short way 4 miles) after I got home I let it sit and rechecked after everything was cool... still have trans temp lite on....checked blink codes and I have a 12 code which is battery voltage battery was disconnected 2 days ago....what does the code note mean . From the 1995 TRUCK (Ram) manuals: the trailer towing package includes a transmission coolant temp sensor while the standard package doesn't. The fault code detection system is probably the same for both models. This could cause the low (no) voltage indication....no sensor to send any voltage......Iam stumped ??? should I just try to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 15 mins or does someone know of a fix :

Re:Trans Temp Light

I doubt you have a problem. If you disconnect the power from all sources for any time over a minute, the PCM takes 50 start cycles to reset itself and drop the 12 code.<br><br>

Re:Trans Temp Light

Hey pappyman Mitch here. You would not believe the trials and tribulations I've had with that @*$#%^@ sensor. Bought my 95 a year and a half ago and the thing would hunt between 3rd and 4th for no reason @ about 1750 rpm. Shortly thereafter the tranny siezed and puked all the ATF on the ground. Towed it to the rebuilder and fortunately no hard parts were gone. I told them about the problem when it went in and when they returned it to me it still hunted. They said it was the torque converter and they ripped it out and put a new one in. Still hunted. They put another torque conv. in (all this under warranty) still hunted. They said it was the valve body, ripped it out again and still hunted. I was friggin furious as this is over a period of months! They ripped it out again and put in a whole new rebuild and guess what... it still hunted. I turned red then plaid with anger. Took it to the ******* and they diagnosedit as a faulty trans. temp sender. $22 Canadian. $175 after labour.<br> Worked fine for a while then it started again so I went underneath and found that the connector to the sender was so worn from them ripping it out so many times. Went to the ******* and the idiot parts guy couldn't match the connector to the sender. Went into the local napa and they had it in their display on the shelf. So it's worked fine ever since so if I were you go out and replace the sender and the connector and the thing will cost you about $30. <br><br>Tell me how it goes.<br><br>Mitch

Re:Trans Temp Light

Where is this trans temp sensor and can it be bypassed to test it<br>Also can this sensor be removed and a trans temp gauge sender installed instead<br>Does this sensor control the overdrive (mine came out of overdrive when it came on)

Pappyman:<br>On the driver's side of the transmission you will see two transmission lines running to the front. On one of these lines there is a fitting for the sensor. At least, that is the way it is on my '94.<br>george

It also looks like a temp sensor its on one of the pair of lines that run between the tranny and engine. Also do not overtighten or you will bottom it out and restrict the flow creating an overheating problem with the new sensor.

Re:Trans Temp Light

If my memory serves ...... put a 7.5K ohm resistor across the plug ... if everything works .. the sender is bad ...
