Trans cooler tube seals leaking

I have a 95 diesel with automaic trans. A couple of weeks ago the trans cooler tube seals began leaking at cooler under the turbocharger. The local dealer says the seals are no longer available and that I will have to purchase a new set of trans cooler tubes--about $300 for the parts :'(.

After looking at HNB (Hip National Bank) and then looking at the tubes, it appears to be possible (and reasonable) to replace the factory design with "crush sleeves" (the kind commonly used with copper tubing.) I certainly have the tools and skills to make this modification. Anyone know of a reason why it is not a good idea???

I look forward to hearing your comments.

Alan

Go ahead and make the lines if you are able. Remember to have a rubber section for flex.
I simply used high quality hot water O-rings on my lines, and made sure that the hair spring clips were firmly seaed. I have had no leaks for over two years.

I used my flaring tools to change mine over to Aeroquip braided steel hose, where the lines attach to the cooler and the trans. Was thinking that if the connections didn't last originally, that the vibration would kill a crush sleeve, also. I've been wrong before, maybe they would be OK!

I had a total fluid loss because of these poor designed cooler lines....cost me a new tranny (which I upgraded at this time) when I had the new tranny installed they put the new style cooler lines and fittings on....it was well worth the cost for my piece of mind
