Trans Cooler/Heat exchanger

I have spent many hours combing the post of this forum as well as others for the answer.... can I get by with out my heat exchanger with addition of an aftermarket cooler? Or can anyone tell me if one from a 24 valve will fit my 96 12 valve? They are differnt but appear to mount the same. HELP! Can't drive my baby for fear of trans fluid getting on the turbo and causing a fire!

You can probably get by without the water/atf cooler if you don't don't tow heavy. Doubt if you'll need an additional air cooler either.
Depending on where you live though your tranny will be very slow to warm up in the winter especally if you hit highway speeds right away and the TC locks.

I am just North of Indy and I do drive it on cold mornings when the Metro won't go in the snow! I usually only use my truck for hauling anything from lumber for projects, to a pallet of concrete in 80 lb bags, about 5,000lbs! and I pull a heavy car trailer, with car on, that weighs in around 7,000 lbs.
Thanks for your input.
