Tranny problem or not????

I have an 02 ram 2500 with a 47re trans. The problem i am having is as follows. When i step on the pedal from a dead stop, the trucks revs and feels sluggish for a few seconds then kicks in and drives fine. When i come to a complete stop, i can feel the tranny downshift immediatly after i stop, and sometimes while i am sitting still at a lite i can feel the tranny bump a little like it found a gear. The only code i get is p0234, engine overboost. It is hard to explain, but i know something is up. It feels as if first gear is slipping. Truck drives perfect from then on. I tow a bass boat long distances and can't afford any issues. I am leaving for a tournament this Wednesday and am hoping to solve this issue before i go. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Only mod to the truck is a 4" exhaust system. Thanks!

I have not adjusted the bands yet, but will do so ASAP. I did change out the filter and fluid in the pan only. I will try the bands and see what happens. Thanks!

Make sure the fluid level is correct, hot in Neutral.

Agree on checking the fluid level.
It's very common for the trans to "burp" an air bubble within a day or so of a fluid change.

Adjusted bands, checked fluid level. After adjustment, it does shift better, but still has that weird first gear shift. From a dead stop, it still lags and then kicks in. Any other suggestions. Still no codes. Thanks guys.

No, i just replaced all rear brake parts @ 250 miles ago. That was the first thing i checked. Both calipers went out on me at the same time. I've put the girll to some hard use this season and it's starting to show. Just hit 85000 miles today.

Try adding one more 1/2 pint of fluid in the trans.

or it may be the governor pressure sensor and the governor pressure solenoid. do a search and see what you can find. it's a very common problem in these 47re trannys but not a big deal. it happened to me as well and a lot of others on here.

i have a thread that may help out more but i have to go and retreive it...i'll be back

HERE'S ONE!

i know i have more in my user cp and all, i'll keep digging, don't worry with all of us tomorrow we'll have you on the road by wednesday, but i bet that it is the gov. pressure sensor/solenoid. it sounds like it to me. you may have to go to the dealer to get the parts though like the guy said in the above link.

Thanks for the info guys. If for some reason i cannot get the parts in time, do you think it's gonna make a 600 mile trip towing a boat? Should i make sure this is fixed before i leave? Only one way to find out.

pesonally i would not even drive it this way, especially towing something. if you can get the parts, it's just a few hour job, not bad at all, but BTW, you might as well change the filter while your under there. if you haven't already read that in the links i posted.

did those links help?
let us know how you come out.

Thanks for the links Ridiculous. These seem to be the same problem i'm having. Hell if it's only a few $$ even if it doesn't work ,at least i have some new parts. I'll get them tommorrow and see what happens. Thanks again! And yes, i did change the fluid and filter already.
