tranny help
a girlfriend of mine has a 2000 automatic with tranny issues. She just made it to my house and we got it in the garage.she said it didn't downshift when she was going up a slight hill and gave it fuel. It didn't have power. did it twice. Now she just showed up and said she barely made it here and there is transmission fluid leaking from dust shield that protects the torque converter.!!!!!I gonna change fluid, filter and adjust the bands on the transmission tomorrow. I was wondering if there was anything else i should look at? And wondering if a plugged filter would cause fluid to come out there?Hope seal aint ruined. There are no codes showing up with smarty nor the three key cycle thing.
1st off, if the filter is plugged, how do you think it got plugged? I will tell you, the clutch material that WAS on the clutches is now in the filter.
2nd, if it is not making the shifts it has a governor pressure and or valve body problem. If it was me and the fluid looks clean, does not smell burnt and the filter is clean, I would change all the electrics on the valve body and install a shift kit. If the fluid is burnt, or the filter is plugged then you will have to go deeper.

she said it all started acting a little wierd a year ago when she took it to someone other than myself to have the fluid and filter changed. They messed up and fluid leaked out the pan and she said she drove it a couple of days like that. Now at that point in time i believe she only had around 50,000 miles on it, but i told her to change the fluid and filter again and she never did. So I am hoping and thinking that the filter is plugged up pretty good and the fluid is not good. I gettin ready to start on it now, so we will see. I will adjust bands to. Hopefully there is bands left.
Lack of power could very well be a bad VP-44 injection pump.
Also, look closely at the oil cooler lines at the front of the pan for leaks.
ok, just got back from test run. Went good. I got transmission fluid and filter changed. Well, about 11 quarts of tranny fluid anyway. And i adjusted the bands. It had a lot of debri in the pan and i think the filter was pretty plugged up too. I've seen them like that before, maybe not quite as bad. It looked like clutch material. Which you get over time anyway. Should have been done a good while ago. Damage-I'm sure it took soom life out of it, but at least it is working now and it isn't leaking......yet. Thanks for the help
