TPS - Removing Throttel Cable
TPS - Removing Throttel Cable
OK...I'm trying to replace the TPS with a new one...resetting and all doesn't work anymore.
Now...how do you get the throttle cable off the TPS lever without breaking the cable end / knuckle that has to back onto the new TPS lever?

If you can fill in your signature with year of truck etc. we can help more.
On my 98 you slide the plastic "knuckle" on the end of the cable forward until it unsnaps. Don't pull it to the side or you will break the plastic. Hope this helps.

Thanks...mine is a 99. Two of the cables came off by sliding forward until they unsnapped...the throttle cable however has a different "knuckle" and won't slide forward...it almost looks like a special tool is need to push on the center of the knuckle to release it from the lever. Hmmmm
Now I think I know what you are talking about. You are correct. You need to depress the center of the retaining clamp and then slide the cable out. I have used a very small "C" clamp to hold this in place as screwdrivers and other pointy objects don't work to well and tend to slide. The spring on the clamp is rather tight and will take a bit of effort to move.
The service manual say:
1. disconnect batteries,
2. remove cable cover,
3. "Using finger pressure only, disconnect end of speed control serve cable from throttrle lever pin by pulling forward on connector while holding lever rearward. DO NOT try to pull connector off perpendicular to lever pin. Connector will be broken."
4. "Using two small screwdrivers, pry throttle cable connectro socket from throttle lever ball, BE VERY careful not to bend throttle lever arm."
5. and then there is more.....
This is out of an 01 book, however the picture shown in the book is just as the one you posted.

It sounds like sterp #4 is the one that gets this cable off the lever ball...if you wouldn't mind...does the next few steps offer any more clue??
Thanks...I'm just concerned that I'm going to snap the thing and then I'll have to put in a new cable too!!

Sorry to be so slow getting back.
I have my old one out in the shop. I'll look at the end you have in question. I'm quite sure it "pops" off! You just want to be gentle and don't twist the ball joint part of the plastic end. Pry with the screwdrivers towards the driver side fender, and it snaps off.
Maybe you've already got it hooked up?
I went out and looked at the old one. Yes, it just pops off the ball. Put a spritz of WD-40 or something similar to the new when you pop it on, it reduces friction some.
