Tons of white smoke!

Here's my problem... 1999, auto, starts and idles fine but intermitent sputtering, sounds like it's running with a couple cylinders out when accelerating, especially at about 20-30 mph, lots of white smoke until I let off of it then it smooths out. LP?, fuel filter?

as cold as it is, i would say fuel filter/gelling fuel. Did you check your codes and can you here your lift pump running? dont start your truck just bump the starter and leave the key in the on position, you should here it buzzing for about 10 sec or so. If you have a garage put it in there with some heat. With the fuel heater it shouldnt gell but it may not be working. Post if you have any codes.

I tried getting the codes.... key thing didn't work. Is that supposed to work on a very early 99 model?

Lift pump is turning on. I replaced the LP about a year ago. It feels kinda the same as it did back then but I didn't get all the white smoke.

Doesn't work on the 99's . I'd bet on gelling too. Get a bottle of the 911 ( red bottle) power service. If it will run, change the filter and add the 911 to the tank. Depending on how much fuel is in the tank, probably the whole bottle. Let it get warmed up, and give it a try.

losing an injector tip will give you massive white smoke.

Check your air filter. Never have had my '99 do it, but the '03 tried to suck the air filter thru the inlet tube to the turbo, and acted a lot like you're describing.

yup yup, that too....either massive overfuel or massive air restriction will do that. or timing retarding. any VP code for timing failure.

Problem Solved...

Well, it was either a plugged up fuel filter or the LP went out (again) I replaced both and now the truck seems to be just fine. Thanks for all your input guys.
