Tire Size

Help!

I'm going out this morning to get new shoes for the brute. Don't have a lot of cash to experiment w/ different tires and brands. I've read umpteen posts on here and I'm still confused.

I understand all about tire diameter, I really don't care about speedometer being off a little and this truck's got plenty of power to pull my trailer. I understand about contact patch and braking too.

Have a '99 QC 4x4, Auto. Truck calls for 246/75/16E's. I bought it ised w/ 235/85/16E's. My question is; can I go to 265/75/16E's on stock 6.5" rims w/o getting squirrelly when towing an 8,000# trailer (32')? 265/75/16E's call for 7 to 8 inch rims.

I'm on my second set of 265/75-16's on 6 1/2" rims. I tow my 5th with no problems what-so-ever.

Been running 265/75-16's on my 96 since I bought it (came with a set that size) on stock wheels- never any issues while hauling 10K trailer or carrying 2K lbs in the bed all winter plowing.
