Throttle cable adjustment
Throttle cable adjustment
Can someone tell me how you adjust the throttle cable, the transmission is not shifting right and I believe its due to the cable stretching. Under the truck, on the driver's side, beside the tranny is the linkage, it is pretty loose. Has a white plastic end on the cable. Truck is revving up/slipping in neutral between the 2-3 shift, and skipping almost immediately from first to third gear. Was advised adjusting the cable might fix it, don't see how to do it though.
On the 99 there is a TV cable from the black box above the IP (the one with the TPS in it) to the throttle valve in the tranny. The adjustment of the cable is part of the setup by a DTT installer and DTT might vary from stock specs. Take a look whether the lever on the tranny starts to move as soon as somebody moves the throttle pedal for you.
If in doubt about your tranny call TiminVa.

Yeah, that's the cable. I'll probably just have to let Tim check it out, it's kinda rough to drive without 2nd gear. Was hoping I could fix it myself. Thanks for the info.
You can adjust it yourself. There are two black screws holding that black APPS cover on. You pull them off and then pry the inserts out that the screws went into. You will see your throttle valve cable along with the accelerator cable and cruise control cable. On the back side of the box(Towards the firewall) you will see a white plastic clip. You pry that clip out and then pull the cable back until the slack is gone. Push the clip back in until it snaps. If you went too far you won't be able to get the clip to snap back in. If you can't get enough slack out of it then you may just need a new cable.
You don't want to go too far because your trans will start having harsh downshifts and it may act very strangely when you give it lots of pedal. Just try to get only enough slack out of the cable. When you push back on the throttle lever, the lever on the trans should move without hesitation. Test and tune........

The fluid is fine, and was just changed 1000 miles ago. All the other gears are fine as well. If I put the gear shift in 2nd, it will shift through first and second just fine, but if it is in drive, it tries to skip second. I know that linkage is not right, the metal piece with the nipple that attaches to the transmission and the end of the throttle cable actually fell off when I touched it the other day, I put it back on and tightened it down, but the cable is still loose.
Dude, when my trans was first installed I had the same problem and it was that piece at the end of the cable where it attaches to the trans lever. It had not snapped into place properly. If yours is broken then yes you will need a new cable...
The DTT has been in about 10 weeks. I'm sure there will be little bugs here and there to work out. The clamp, for lack of a better word, that slips over the transmission lever, and connects the end of the throttle cable to the trasmission lever, had come off. I put it back on, but it is still out of adjustment. Truck skips second gear constantly. I haven't pulled the APPS cover off yet and messed with it, I've just been shifting manually when towing, which helps a little.
When you say it hadn't snapped into place properly...
Are you talking about the metal clamp that swivels, and fits over the D shaped stud on the tranny? Has a nipple on the bottom side that the plastic end of the throttle cable snaps onto? The clamp deal only will fit down onto the tranny stud through the lower hole, which is D shaped. There is another hole above it that it seems like the tranny stud should fit through as well, but it doesn't seem to want to. You can't really tighten the clamp down onto the stud without it through that upper hole though. Is that what was causing the problem on your tranny?
