throttle cable adjustment and u-joints

I didn't look real close so I may have missed it, but is there a way to take some of the slack out of the cable coming from the pedal? I've got some slack in it.

I also just checked Summit for U-joints (I have at least one bad), and they have two listed. One is Precision U Joint 295, the other Precision U Joint 330. I can't see a difference. Any way to know which I need without pulling the old ones?
Thanks

Fill out your signature so we know what truck you are talking about.

THere is a write up straight out of the factory service manual about adjusting your cable. It's labeled as a TV cable....

Look up the universal joints on Napa or Rockauto.com and see what they have to say about your u joints. They should be similar part numbers... Maybe those ujoints are greasable and non greaseable.

They are both greasable. See if my signature comes up.

Check those sites and make sure you enter the diesel engine option. I'm almost sure Napa sells Precision.

EDIT: I see both sites sell precision, and both list both options. All specs are the same, the 295 is listed on Rockauto as "Super Strength" hence the higher price tag, and the 330 is listed as "Premium". Looks like it's just a decision of regular or super grade.

Oh, and Rockauto was half price vs Napa.

Thanks.

The cable adjustment thread I found was for the kickdown cable. There is some slack in the cable from the pedal.

In dieselpower mag, they put a spacer on the cable down on the floor to take up the slack (look on dieselpower.com and you can probably find a picture from Project Rust Bucket by DTR local JQMile).

Adjusting your throttle linkage can also help some. Loosen the 2 10mm locknuts and turn the shaft. One side is LH Thread, and one is RH thread, so turning the shaft will lengthen or shorten the rod.

Here the picture of the tightening of cable they did in Diesel Power Mag:

Thanks. That shouldn't be hard. Noticed the other day while looking at the cable with my uncle that the adjustable link to the pump has been welded at the pump end.
