Easy check: Take a 17mm wrench and loosen (so that it is finger loose) the fuel supply banjo fitting on the vp 44. That's the fitting with the schader valve on it; line leads back to the fuel filter canister.

Bump the starter (without starting truck) and lift pump should run for about 20 seconds.......you should see fuel coming out. If you don't, replace fuel filter first, then try again. If that doesn't work, you may need a lift pump. Do yourself a favor and buy a DDRP at least, for $100 more than stock LP, you actually get a product that is reliable.

Check fuel pressure , from reading & watching the problems that many have had with the VP pump , they will run with a dead lift pump , but this is what kills the VP [ working too hard ] .
Forgot to mention , there are 2 parts to the LP , motor & pump , its common that the pump goes before the motor , so you could still hear the motor running , and have no fuel pressure from LP .
Every truck should have a fuel pressure gauge , to avoid many issues , and to aide diagnostics .
