TC Hunting still, Need instructions for Alt. brush replacement.

Well my tranny is still hunting the lockup, I have done just about everything to fix this issue.
Does anyone have instructions on how to replace/check the brushes in our alternators. Search didn't turn up anything Autozone tested the alternator and it tested fine, but I want to get in there and look for my self. Instructions and pics would help the job go faster.

TIA

Batteries and Alternator Tested
APPS -- Voltage adjusted .42 volt moved back up to .52
Grounds -- everyone cleaned
ECM -- new ground to battery
ground by alternator -- wrapped and grounded
ECM -- updated with latest flash program
DTT Noise Filter -- going on tonight
Ground from Tranny to Frame
2 RF Chokes, next to P. battery, and alternator.

For me what worked, after trying most of what you tried, was buying an rf choke from radio shack and snapping it around the ground wire that runs over the alternator. I put it near where the wire connects to ground, right after the transmission had acted up (hunting for gears). I intended to move it closer to the APPS later at home, when I could dig the wire out of the wire conduit, but it didn't act up after I put it by the ground connection. It has been over a week now and the trans. has been acting fine. Not sure why since I am not very electrically inclined. Seems like it would need to be between the alternator and the APPS to help but it didnt... Maybe it was just a fluke and the problem will come back later... I got the idea from lwowen's post back in 2004, although he put the rf choke on the wire from the APPS to the PCM.

One more thing that might help. I got a can of spray contact cleaner and sprayed the ECM plug contacts and the connector plugs under the passenger side batteries.

You said you had the batteries tested but if they are over two years old I would replace them with optima red tops.

I bet the DTT noise filter solves it.

mr T,

I will look into taking those wires out of that loom.

J-fox,

I do have the DTT noise filter, if anything it made the problem worse. It occurs more often with the DTT noise filter on than off. Which I truly believe that it is not the fault of the noise filter but the circumstances of my problem.

dctoner, sorry to hear that you still have this problem. There is a guy that has a wiring harness advertised on e-bay, I think it reroutes the wires away from the alternator.

Hope you find the solution to your problem soon.
