Steering on 96 dually

I know the answer is probably in the forums, but I have to get going and cant look for the info! Sorry guys!

I have a 96 Ram 3500 4x4 dually. With the engine off, when the steering wheel is turned, the shaft that hooks up to the gear box moves abut 1/2" ( maybe 1/10th of a turn) before the wheels start to move.

I think my steering gear is bad. I have looked at drag links, track bar, ball joints and all the other stuff and they look fine.

Any better way to diagnose? If steering gear is bad, whats the best way to go? I plan on updating the track bar at the same time. Should I go with the DSS, Lecks links, or the update to be able to use the 03 track bar?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Same Question here. I bought a 97 Dually (this morning BTW) and the truck tracks straight and feels solid, but there is a good amount of slop in the wheel. Are there any stupid little things like a bushing or something that we should be looking at or is the box the obvious point of failure?

EASY find the adjuster on the steering box BIG screw with a lock nut... spray it with PB Blaster for a couple days... then turn it in 1/2 a turn...try the steering...etc.,etc...til its good...

DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY... trucks are 10 y/o but you should have no problem
