Stated Squekking now its Grinding!!

I have noticed a sqeek from the drivetrain for a few weeks now figurd it was a U Joint dying well today on the way to work it started a clicking sound and then a intermittent grinding coming from the the drivetrain at first it sounded like somthing was dragging on the ground underneath but upon inspection found nothing. Could this be the rear end failing or will a u sjoint make that noise also?
gonna call the shop in the morning and send it in but want as much info as possible before I do i have the H.O. with a 6 Speed and 3:55 gears 80,000 miles on it doesnt seem like the rear end should fail that new what do you guys think??

Sounds like a U-joint. Jack up one wheel and rotate the tire by hand, you should be able to ID where the noise is coming from.

Brakes?
Are you sure it's coming from the rear? I just found an issue on my '99, had a rotating sound that I thought was a U-Joint, turned out to be a trashed hub...

Why'd you wait a "few weeks" to have it looked at?
And now your mad??
Seized u joints stress other components. Who knows what went wrong.

Edit: And to go along with the other thread....here's your sign.

I didn't look at your sig before I started this but I had a similiar problem once sounded like I was dragging a chain or something under the truck. It was the carry over bearing going out its hard to if anything is wrong with it by looking unless its just distroyed.

I would have some else drive the truck slowly while I tried to locate the noise. It could be a u-joint, a hub bearing, a carrier bearing, or axle bearing. Really hard to tell. I would start there though.

I'll gladly help you out. Don't wait "weeks" to figure out what a noise is and then be mad about it. Especially when you make your living with it (as per your sig)

Is the fluid gray or milky looking? Could possibly be water in the rear and has taken out the bearings.
