I've got a '96 CTD and I think it just ate a starter.
yesterday when I tried to start it it turned over really slow, I had to give it fuel to get ti to fire off. This morning on the way to work it it was making a death noise like the starter was coming apart but it did start. On the way home same problem and longer to start. I got it home and tried to restart it and nothing now. I know these things are notorious for eating starter contacts, I just wondering if anyone else has had the death noises? It has 300k and its on its 3rd starter. Please advise

 

Yea, sounds like a bucket of bolts in a paint shaker!

I just buy the napa 3 year warranty starters. there $135 last time I bought one. This way if there is any trouble for 3 years just unbolt it and bring it back. The contacts go and you can replace them but that doesnt sound like you're problem.
