Stall and wont start HELP!!!!!!!

Ok... here's the details....
Started this morning fine, drove aprox 10 miles to work without issue, last mile started acting like a gasser would if it was if it wasn't getting enough fuel. At the turn in for where I work, it flat out died.
Conditions, 1/8 tank fuel (was gonna fill up after work), Fuel Filter at aprox
15k miles (was going to replace this weekend) and apparently no codes on the computer.

I have someone that can run me to the parts store after work, planning on new fuel filter, plus 10gallons of diesel. And HOPING this fixes the problem... If not, where should I look?

No fuel pressure gauge, want to add one today as well...
what parts do I need?

THANKS in advance...
-Tim

Have you done the key trick? On-off-on-off-on and look at the odometer? It is possible that with an 1/8 tank the fuel was airated. When you change the fuel filter does the bowl refill? If not...your lift pump is dead. You will need to replace it. You can get a fuel pressure gauge at an auto parts store with a schrader connection which will allow you to test your pressure for the short term. There are many threads on plumbing fuel pressure gauges here.

Re: stall and wont start....

No, didn't have time, just pushed the truck back and onto a pull out on the side of the road.... I've now got all day to research the fuel pressure guage, that was just a frantic by-line to the post

Do lift pumps just DIE?? If my lift pump did just DIE, how much does it take to kill the IP?

The part about no codes, was solely based on the fact that the check engine light did not stay on after the initial POST that they all do.

so a fuel pressure test kit with a schrader valve will get me started on being able to check the fuel pressure and then I can research a perm guage later
THANKS ALOT

check lift pump, change filter and add fuel are all good ideas but if it did run out of fuel and lose its prime, crack an injector line (3/4 in wrench) and crank until it starts and then tighten back up. since you were so low on fuel hopefully thats all it was.

Fixed......

THANK YOU GUYS......

bought 5 gallons of diesel and a new fuel filter...

changed the fuel filter, primed the filter... no start

cracked (and bled)from the front, 1, 3 and 4 fuel lines... don't know if thats the "injector" or not... but two 15 second cranks and it hit and started running.....

I'll be going to the autoparts store this afternoon and getting a fuel pressure guage and some sort of mount..... cheap for now and better from Geno's when I have the $$ to get a nice electric one.

The biggest problem I had once I got back to the vehicle was dropping
my 3/4" wrench between the radiators...... too more time to retreive it than to bleed the injector lines.

THANK YOU GUYS TONS..

I have a dowel with a bolt through the end designed specifically for the purpose of retrieving wrenches from that space...I have used it many times.
