Retrieving codes with Snap On Modis

Well, had my lift pump replaced last week (twice) and on my way home from work today, the check engine light came on. It may have nothing to do with last week's repair, but who knows. All gauges looked fine and the truck was running fine so I drove home.

Did the on-off... trick and got the P1693 companion code but nothing else.

Now the question:

I use a Snap On Modis scanner at work and I was wondering if it will pull ALL the codes that may have been stored or are there codes that are only accessible with the dealer's laptop?

I have an appointment with the dealer tommorrow afternoon, but I don't want pay the $112 diagnostic charge if the Modis will give me ALL my answers.

Andy, I don't have a clue weather or not you can pull the codes that way. If you have the right connector, go for it. If you can pull any codes to go along with your companion code you are a step ahead. I just wonder if you will come up with the dreaded 0216 code since you lost your LP.

Don't they cover that under warranty if the check engine light is on?

I would think that you can pull the codes, what else would the independent mechanics do?

IF they deem it to be a warranty repair, they refund the diagnostic charge. I guess I'm on the fence on this one. I don't expect them to pull codes on everyone's vehicles for free, but $112 is a lot of dough. I don't know what the fair answer is to this one.

I did pull the codes today and there were no stored codes besides the companion code. I cleared the codes to reset the light and so far, it has not come back on.

code p 1693 is a companion code, mine did this about 2 weeks ago, but ran like crap. code 1690 was pulled from the superchips programmer my buddy used to upgrade his 98.5. dealer said 1690 is low fuel pressure.

If I had know it meant low fuel pressure, I would have fixed it myself and not spent 725.00 for Dodge to change the lift pump and filter!
