Rear shocks

We got the driver side rear shock off but we can get the passenger rear shock off??? We moved the sway bar and got the bottom bolt out but the top bolt wont come out for the life of it. What are we missing?? Thanks in advance.By the way its a 2001 2500 4x4.

Re:Rear shocks

I put rear shocks on mine last week. I went with the Rancho 9000X adjustable shocks. They've been on sale, buy 3 get one free. The front shocks are on back order, so I should be getting them soon. The front ones don't look like they'll be too bad to put on.

Anyway, I took a pry bar to the stabilizer bar and moved it just enough to get the bolt out on the bottom of the passenger side. I reinstalled the bolt from the other side. I didn't have any trouble with the top. I used a long extension and an impact wrench. The socket went right in between the top of the rail and the bottom of the bed over the tires. The bolt came right out the same way.

What sort of problem are you having? Is something in the way of the bolt? Mine is a dually, so it may be different than yours, but I would think they would be about the same design.

Re:Rear shocks

SuperiorDiesel03
Yep. The shock bolt is very tough. I am trying to remember what I did. I think that I had to lower the body on a stand or something like that. Perhaps I had to bring it out on a slant. Sorry. seniors moment.
There is just no room for the bolt to come out!
george

Re:Rear shocks

Blue, I had a heck of a time getting the steering stabilizer off my old '95. I finally borrowed a puller and got it off. Its a taper fit and not easily removed but it will come. I haven't changed the one on my '01 yet..and dreading it.
