Rear brake locks up

My driver side rear drum is in an on/off mode. Meaning when I touch the brake pedal that brake locks-up. I cleaned the truck up real good after playing in the mud last weekend and the FSM says something about "water on the brake lining" so maybe that's it... but my immediate problem is getting the drum off! I can't get it to budge. The adjuster is backed-off as far as it will go but the drum is stuck. How do I get this thing off so I can see what's doin' under there?

I need to get this fixed now. If anybody would care to give me immediate help on this, call me at 858-342-1063. Otherwise I'll be checking back here frequently.

Thanks.
Russ

Re:Rear brake locks up

Well I got the drum off. Just wasn't using a big enough hammer. ;D

Any ideas as to why the brake is locking up would still be appreciated though.

Thanks.

Re:Rear brake locks up

Russ was there ANY type of contamination like brake fluid or gear oil on the shoes? Do your brakes feel the same as before you went playing? If there is nothing on the shoes then I would look at all components of the brake system for potential problems. You didn't say if the brake or abs lights are on or not. It does sound something like brake fluid contamination. If I think of anything else, I will let you know.

Thanks Tom. It's fixed though. Gave the whole thing a good cleaning, especially the surfaces of the shoes and drum, and now all is back to normal.

I guess the water on the lining thing makes sense because I didn't drive the truck after I cleaned it. On the drum, I could see an outline of the shoe which I assume is from water sitting all night.

Learn something new every day.

Thanks.
