Radiator

I turned the plastic pet to drain the radiator. This worked well. It will not
tighten up. Just keeps turning.

Need some recommdations and suggestions? Hope I do not have to pull the radiator and if so can it be repaired?

Thanking you in advance for any information.

2005 - 2500 a/t 2wd.

Did you try pushing it in first, then start to try and tighten it. Sometimes you have to push it in to get the threads to engage.

Yes. Pushed in the plastic pet**** and will not grab. Just keeps turning.
I have done many cooling system flushings, but this has me baffeled. Of course this is first on a diesel.

Pet**** feels like a bayonet system when turning. Tried again but nothing is happening. Cannot close it off. This is not a good sign.

Unscrew it and pull out valve and you will see how it works to tighten. Very cheap designed valve, happen's to me every time I do cooling system service.

Hey thanks for the reply, yes, petcock. This terrible radiator word was deleted in my original post.
I tried unscrewing and pulling the petcock out, but will not happen. Do I need to use pliers for this? Or I must have become very weak in my old age,
hahaa. I will give it a try tomorrow.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. Just I can remove the petcock.
How is this accomplished? It just spins.

thanks

Either way at this point you need to get to the dealer and buy a new one.

I just took it a part and put it back together. Like I said a very cheap design when you see how it works you will say WAPOS.

I am not sure if the 2005 is the same. Seems different. I followed the manual
but something is not working. I do not want to pull that radiator, big job and not time. Or I work all night and take it to a radiator shop. Not sure what is actually going. I have never seen a petcock like this. Hope it is not broken.

Has anyone had this problem and were you able to put in a brass petcock system? If so, were able to do this while radiator is still in the truck?
John, I did find a wholesaler and can get a new radiator for a mere $425.
Must be a simpler way? A $35,000. pick up and a crap petcock. I agree with you bigiron. Never seen anything like this.

I see that you tried to push the draincock inward, then turn it a I mentioned in the other thread. It may be necessary to check the o-ring and make sure that it is properly seated. If so, put some waterproof /silicone grease; ie plumbers grease, on the o-ring to make it easier.

Do not use petroleum based grease or lubricants on the o-ring as this causes o-rings to swell up and or fail.

Hey:
Hercules, BigIron70 and Dr. Dizzle. Thank you very much for your suggestions. IT WORKED! and it is working. Will take it out for a ride to be sure this afternoon.

BigIron70, I used a small pair of vise grips to get the drain plug out and you
are correct, WAPOS system it is. I will be checking with a good radiator shop
to see if they can put in a brass plug system for future use.

Really appreciate the suggestions, especially on a big football weekend.
At least I do not have to buy a new radiator as one person suggested.

My thanks to all of you again. This is a great forum and the first time I had to
ask for assistance. Am sure it will not be the last. Put in zerex 05 anti freeze
and distilled water.

2005 - 2500 2wd, a/t Red in color stock engine, use for pulling my travel trailer and sometimes drive to work.
