PSD question.
PSD question.
Sorry to taint the board with a powestroke question but the problem is twofold.........
1. I need to get the truck running ASAP and I'm familliar with this board.
2. Not familiar with the Ford forums and Ford guys tend to be Jerks.
Anyway, I've got a '99.5 PSD F350 6spd that won't stay running, starts sometimes and runs for a while then develops a horrible miss and quits. Sometimes check engine light comes on but I haven't been able to pull any codes with my scanner, sometimes water in fuel light comes on but have changed the filter several times have found no evidence of water. I'm told when it last quit (yesterday) that they pulled the filter and the fuel cannister was empty. So I figure this is like a "lift pump" type issue (sound fammiliar????)
Where is the pump on these trucks? How do you test it??
Any other sugestions?
Thanks.

Take a look at the cam position sensor, that is a common problem with the 7.3, and can give some of the symptoms you describe. Also, look for bad o-rings at or near the high pressure pump, if you have problems there, the o-rings will band-aid it, and you will still end up needing a new pump.
Other than those, not much but glow plugs tend to go wrong on the 99 trucks. 97 was a dog, 98 was marginally better, by 99 they had most of the bugs worked out.
Good luck with it

Look at front of engine at about the 10 o clock position for sensor---its been a long time, but I think its just a 10mm bolt and a wire connector-5 min job----psd owners should carry a spare in the jockey box........just my opinion

drop your tank and clean all the pickups mine did the same thing about three months ago my pickup was so gummed up it couldn't get fuel. now would be a good time to do the harpoon mod witch is great for the money. do a search over at the diesel stop just don't tell them u like a cummins and they r great people. ford also had many probelms out of the quick connect fitting going from the tank to the fuel pump. i just cut mine out and made my own. also check all the o ring on the fuel filter housing mine did this before and the o ring on the fuel filter housing lid was pinched. if u have any tach at all when cranking it isn't the cam sesor.
