Once you install the pump, you sometimes have bleed the line from the pump to the steering box, then check to be sure that the fluid is passing through the steering box and back the return hose.

Once you know you have fluid to the steering gear, then jack up the front end, and get the system to bleed by filling the pump, then running at a fast idle and cranking the steering wheel left and right, but stopping just before you hit the stops. Do this for about three minutes, working the wheel all the time.

Fill the fluid again, and let it idle at a fast idle for about five minutes. Then take it for a test drive.

power steering

well i let it idle for about 15 mins the other day and still no power steering, im going to try to jack the front end up and see if that works, i know i dont have any air but i did have a waterie sludge coming out when i was flushing it, if the box is bad would a box off a 99 1500 2wd dodge work for it

I have read other post talk about sucking air though old return line , cracks going the lenght of the hose on the inside of the hose, if your lucky it could be a cheep fix.

All the diesel engine power steering pumps are the same. All you have to watch for is to make sure you get one with the vacuum pump drive.

steerimg box

well i tried lofting the front of the truck up and moving the steering wheel back and forth and when i let the truck down and let it fast idle for 10 mins, i got in it and still no power steering, could it be the steering box and if so would the one off the 99 1500 gas work for it im trying to save as much money as i can and get it on the road, the steering box out of the 99 1/2 ton only has like 50000 miles on it so it should be in good shape
