Possible in fuel line
Possible air in fuel line
Hey guys, I just put in a fuel pressure guage in my 01 HO Cummins. I used a banjo bolt in where the shrader connection was. Hook up the fuel line on both ends. The truck started and ran for 2 seconds, then died and wont start. What do you guys think.
Fuel pressure at the new test point? Did you bleed the air the you let in when you disassembled the system all the way through to the banjo on the VP44?
If you have at least 9 psi during the start sequence, I would let the lift pump run four or five cycles before trying to start to force the air out of the VP44, then try to start.
If you do not have at least 9 psi, then check the lift pump. If it is good, then pop the banjo on the fuel tank return outlet side of the VP44 just enough for it to drool fuel during the prime cycle. This takes two people, one to run the lift pump in the prime cycle and the other to work the banjo bolt so it is always under fuel pressure. Do not let the lift pump quit while the banjo is still loose, that just pulls air back in the injection pump.
If that does not do the trick, it may be the VP44.

I cranked it over off and on for an hour or so, still getting lots of air.
Romoved the Banjo Bolt, put the Shrader connection back in. Been crankin for a little while, getting more fuel but still some foam coming out. I''l keep tryin.

RCW, I got it started, and running smooth. It just took alot of cranking to get rid of all the air. I did leave the banjo out, so still no Fuel pressure guage, but I'll try that again at a later date. Thanks for your comments. Robert
Read up on how to bleed air out of your fuel system. Your going to need to know how to change fuel filters anyway. The correct process only takes a few minutes. It will save you tons of time and starters and batteries in the future.
