popping when I turn

When I go around a corner (right) I get a single pop, then when I turn left I get another, like it's popping back. Seems to be coming from driver's side wheel/shock area. What should I look for? Can't see anything that looks loose, and all tie rods/wheel bearings/fr shocks were just replaced.

Yes, I will be taking it back to the mechanic, but I need to see if i'ts something I can fix A S A P.

Thanks

Re:popping when I turn

This is normal for a first gen. It is the design of the front end. You can do a search for it in the first gen forum. I would not worry about it. I just try not to turn sharp if I do not have to.

Did it pop at all before getting the work done?

Re:popping when I turn

I guess it did - one of the reasons I had the work done - 3 DAYS after I bought it!

Mine used to pop like that also. Took it to three different dealers before it was fixed. It sounded like it came from the front end, but the dealer told me that a nut came loose from somewhere back by my fuel tank. He said that he has seen it happen a lot.

Re:popping when I turn

Also, a binding limited slip diff can make a popping or snapping sound when going around corners, friction modifier fixes it.

It's the lower control arm bushings! Eureeka!

Now all I have to do is replace 'em... oh well, it's a good excuse to treat myself to those Moog springs....

Re:popping when I turn

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but, when I replaced my springs with MOOG's. I also put in new upper and lower control arm bushings thinking that was the popping noise. No change. The pop is still there.

Re:popping when I turn

If you notice it is louder while going either up or down a slight incline and turning, then I would check all the cab mounts. the later Dakotas had problems with this and it was just the cab stressing and releasing as the frame would tweak from the turn.
