It all started with a louder than usual sound. As I accelerate, there is this horrible cracking noise from the engine. Like your motor is pinging out constantly. At idle with a warm truck you can not hear it. At 50 mph cruising you can not hear it. You can really hear it under any acceleration. There is absolutely no power at all. Something with the fuel system I think. Maybe the CP3. It is having a hard time starting as well. I floored it the other day and just got a poof of smoke, slow acceleration and a puttering sound out of the exhaust. Like a mini back fire. Has a very hard time idling at cold. I drove it like this for at least 30 miles and then got home and shut it down. Anyone have any idea on what it is?

 

Did you check the oil level to see if over full in case an injector gave it up? Also any CEL or codes? Could be stuck in limp mode with smoke and no acceleration. Mine does it every time it goes into limp mode and makes sputtering sound.

Oil level is fine. I did notice a little decrease in oil psi. No CEL codes.

 

Nope, same fuel for a bit. Least a week. I would hope the Fass system would block the water if it was bad fuel.

Did you try turning it back to stock? I failed to mention that my TST would cause the Limp Mode and to get it out of it I would have to turn it back to stock. Since you have the bully dog listed in your sig. It could be causing or amplifying an issue.

 

I currently have a smarty on it. I did put it back to stock. I am going to trouble shoot it tonight with some friends. I will post how it goes.

 

Sounds like what my son's Toyota did when it spun a rod bearing. Use a stethoscope to locate the source of the noise.
