P1682

Alt meter in dash falls dead, check gauges light comes on. Pull codes, come up with p1693 and p1682. I think that my alt is fried. Connections are good, corrosion free and batteries should be good.

I should be able to just use my wife's car to charge the batteries enough to limp home so I can get the alt pulled? That is my current plan at least.

Please fire back as I am sitting in the Holiday Inn Express business center at exit 38 in I-35E just south of Ft. Worth.

Thanks

Mine did this two days ago. I found that my edge box was loose! The guys at the shop must have been jacking with it. I cleared the codes by unplugging my box, the vp electrical connection, and all three of the bundles connected to the computer located on the firewall.

If you go back at restart the truck, do you get normal operation on the voltmeter? I've had an instance before where the computer shut down the alternator, but it reset on the next startup. In my case, the truck had been sitting for 4 weeks in cold weather on marginal batteries, so it was VERY slow to turn over and start up. I think I pulled so hard on those batteries, the temp came up and the computer shut down the alternator for safety purposes. I replaced the batteries when I got home and everything has been fine since then.

Other option, check the large alternator fuse under the hood to see if it has popped. If so, you'll need a new one. Expensive at the dealer, but cheaper than the alternator.

Did you find a solution to your truck problem? Mine has suddenly developed the same issues.
