A bad connection at the PDC on the left front fender
used to get that symptom, without the code, on my 01. Found a loose connection on the main power into the PDC

i have the code on the odometer but nothing shows up on my scanner.. so you are talking about the front drivers fender? do i have to pull the box off or can i see it without taking it off

yes, it is on the left inner fender, behind the battery, and no, you shouldn't have to take anything off to see the main connections that were loose on mine. I am not saying for sure that this is the issue, it was on mine though
I am having exact same problem but batteries are being charged at 14.2volts which is what it should be. What is the PDC. Is this the main electrical box which has all of the fuses and relays inside? Mine will drop to 0 volts but the lights do not dim and if I shut the truck off and restart, the voltmeter will usually go right back where it should be. Any suggestions?

Mine has done it twice in the last 3 weeks. I just went out and cleaned all of the grounds and cleaned all battery terminals and tightened. Hoping that this cures the problem. I took it to the alternator shop that rebuilt it two years ago and they could not find any problems. I had one negative battery terminal that was loose enough that I could twist it off without loosening the clamp so I am hoping that was the problem.

Is your truck repaired? Mine has suddenly started with the same symptons as yours. Check voltage warning, P1682 code, zero on voltmeter. BUT, truck will start up just fine with no dimming of lights and volts recover after start up (excpet when real cold outside).
