P0602 Code again

I have Smartchip unit and normally tuned for performance when not towing. My problem is that I will set off code P0602 and Engine Check Light when I am forced to punch the throttle down hard for passing or just get away from an idiot on the road. The Smarty will not reset or clear the the code/light unless I tune back to stock first, and then retune to performance again.

I suspect that the code is set off by the boost pressure (over 20 PSI) which I seem to get with the Smartchip. The code is explained as "ECM Fueling calibration error". I also notice no difference in performance when the code has been triggered and check engine light is lit.

I love my SmartChip unit but I hate seeing that check engine light everytime I am force to accelerate away from something. The problem is not present in stock tuning.

I would appreciate any feed back or fix information.

I am not sure of the year of your truck, but if you have a VP fuel pumped truck the problem is simply one of the corresponding signals from the MAP and the injection pump controller exceeding the error threshold. If you have a common rail engine, then you have a much more serious problem, and should be checking the condition of the rail pressure valve before it simply starts leaking to the point it shuts you down. What happens with the common rail system is the pressure relief starts to pit and is unable to maintain the rail pressure under high fueling demands.

Are you running a smarty ecm tuner? If so when did you buy it and is your truck a carb emissions?

You should not get a cel with a smarty and P0602 code.

The truck is a 1999 3500 with the Cummings. It also has 4 inch exhaust and Banks high Lift intake. The tuner is a Smartchip Model 3705 Max Tuner purchased in 2005.

Probably the Superchips tuner causing the code...all it means is that the ECM software isn't right. It should not be...after all, you downloaded new into it wth the Superchips!!

So what you are saying is that I am stuck with this annoying code aslong as I continue to use the programmer.
Is there another programmer which might not set off this code or a software change for mine.

The Smarty does it as well...why is it annoying?? It doesn't set the check engine light to come on...at least not that I've heard. It only shows up when you check for codes??

It won't be there after you reset to stock, then clear any codes!!
