Overdrive Piston Retainer Removal

The Transmission is a 97 47RE. Ok here's the deal, the overdrive piston retainer is damaged (long story) and needs to be replaced. I have removed the overdrive piston and the 6 bolts that hold the piston retainer in. The piston retainer will spin but I can't seem to get the retainer to slide back off the intermediate shaft. Is there something that is holding it on other than the 6 bolts or some trick to getting it off? I have another piston retainer from a donor transmisson but I haven't been able to get it off yet either.

Any help and ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,
TW

I'm not certain about where, but theres a large, high pressure spring in the O/D unit somewhere, that requires a press to get out. Over 500psi, so be very careful.

Thanks for the information. Bad news is better than prying it off, breaking something and then finding out the tranny needed to be pulled and disassembled. I'll have to dig through my Mopar Shop Manual a little harder. I could not find any reference to that snapring. Guess I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

Thanks,
