Oil on trailer a fluke? Please help!
Oil on trailer a fluke? Please help!
I posted on the 5.9 engine forum but might get some other answers here. I drove about 275 miles last night pulling my horse trailer. It's a 37 foot trailer. I noticed this morning that there is some OIL ONLY on the passenger side rear wheel well of the trailer. Just a dusting of it really. Nothing real messy but noticeable. Nothing on the truck, rear bumper is dry, exhaust pipe is dry inside with normal soot. NOTHING on the FRONT of the trailer or anywhere else. Looks like I drove through some oil just on that one axle and it spun off. Oil level in the truck is half quart low, but not sure my truck is really level but it's close. Just kind of odd. Trailer is 37 foot long so the exhaust would have to go a long ways!! You would think the side of the trailer would be covered???? THanks for the help!
Sounds like you ran over something with some oil on or in it that was picked up by the tires on that side. May have been something when you were getting on or off the road or fueling up that you didn't notice.
Anything in the trailer that could of contributed to the puzzle?
Maybe you had a horse in there that was chewing tobacco and when he spit you ran over some of it and you thought it was oil!!

Things are not always what they appear. I once found fluid leaking on the ground, stuck my fingers in it and felt it, then smelled it, still not sure I tasted it. I thought it was hydraulic fluid as it was bitter. So the hunt was on for the leak. After about an hour or so I find out the owner had a pet lion that he would keep in the small room at the back. There the lion would just pee and it would run through the carpet then through the floor and eventually leak out onto the ground.
