Thumbs down 1800 cummins a fluke

Well I called the 1800 cummins line and told them of my problems of there fabulous "53" block. After letting them know I've had 4 of there product's seem's there is gonna be no help.So thanks cummins for your help with your junky product....Has anyone else ran into no help from this defective block.Seems like it is funny that they help some and not others.

Dodge buys the Cummins engines from the manufacturer. Cummins is no way obligated to do anything.

Yep, all warranty is through Dodge, and the 53 blocks are all out of waranty now. They didn't know it was a flaw when they put them out, and when it was discovered, it was fixed. Really they did all they could be reasonablly be expected to do. More in many cases where they actually did help out, even though they were not obligated to.

What problem you got with a 53 block?

Only one I'm aware of is that some will crack under the exhaust manifold. If you get 100k out of it and it hasn't cracked and started leaking, it ain't gonna.

Are you the original owner or 2nd owner and have less than 150000 miles on the truck.

Stuff like this angers me as a consumer. They knew they had a problem with the 53 block but let it go anyway until the production run was over. Just like the junky VP-44 by Bosch. Dodge knew it was junk but kept selling them anyway.

Has anyone tried suing Cummins over the 53 block issue? Maybe if you filed suit in small claims court they might offer to cut you a check for some amount just so they wouldn't have to hassle with it

I'm curious, how do you know that they knew this prior to selling them?

I'm no better than nobody else,It raises my eyebrows at how they have helped some and some are in the cold.It shouldn't matter if a man or woman is a second or third owner of a vehicle. The dang 53 blocks were junk and are junk.I've had 4 cummins products. That is my money I've invested in to feed there families and I take my butt to work in there product to feed mine...Bottom line cummins sells to dodge and they try and say they have no other ties to the warranty edit They need to be fair to all who has a 53 block no matter what. This would be different if it was a gas motor , I wouldn't have to second mortgage the home to fix it...

Thats real easy for you to say your block's not cracked with virtually no miles for a diesel .....

The vast maority of the 53 blocks didn't crack... There is a difference in being inferior and being junk.

all vehicles have problems and of these dodges mainly they are the brakes and steering being a little shakey, the fuel system and the possibility of a thin block casting that is problematic to cracking. Knowing these things or finding them out before purchase of said vehicle seems to be the responsibility of the consumer as the purchaser of a USED vehicle.

If you don't like it, sell it and buy something else. We bought these (typically used) trucks out of our own decisions, not forced into having them.

respectfully,
TNutcher
