Exclamation ???Oil TOO clean??????

OK.. kinda worried here....
Changed the oil and filter on the truck on the 5th of January, and have driven just over 500 miles since.
prefilled the filter and everything went fine.
Just checked the dipstick and the oil level is "full", but what was scary is that the oil is so clean it looks like it just came out of the bottle...
My last truck and th Ford I had before it, the oil would turn black as spades as soon as you turned the truck over. I would have thought even just sitting in the sump it would pick up enough crude to turn black.
The oil on the dips tick was warm to the touch, and so is the filter. There is no smell of diesel fuel or signs of coolant in the oil.
When I start the truck, the oil pressure gauge drops to zero then rises to the normal operating range.
Engine sounds fine, but I am worried something is wrong....
I mean, shouldn't the oil be black by now? Is this a sign of a major problem?????

Scared to start the truck now.....

Mine is the same way. I bought this truck on the 10th of January and the dealer had changed the oil, I have been about 800 miles now and it looks just like new oil just poured in. I had 2 gm diesels before this and the oil was black as spades before it got out of the garage.

I changed mine 2000 miles ago and it is still really clean, I think you are fine. I have never owned anything else that stays clean for so long.

Relax! Man, you are a worry wart.

Just don't HIT anyone this time, and make sure you have FULL coverage!

A man shouldn't have to sell his horse to pay for body work.

I took it for granted it should be filthy by now... its cleaner than the BOSS's Grand Am's oil and they were changed at the same time....

Thanks again.. sorry for the panic...

and Gieco, I got FULL comprehensive( thru Gieco none the less) and am avoiding that particular intersection...

The previous owner may have run synthetic oil in it before and that will keep the crankcase cleaner. Just a thought.

Mine usually stays pretty clear until its been run through a few thousand miles. When I change my oil its usually every 6 months since I dont put the miles on my truck lately. Its usually fairly black and has the diesel smell to it by then though.

Be happy its clean!

How can one possibly be unhappy about oil being clean? Like, the rings are holding too much gunk in the cylinders, why is it not in my oil? I can understand not liking it when it is as filthy as sin, like mine... I wish mine was clean.

mine stays clean for 2000 miles.

I had to change my oil pan last fall. absolutely no sludge or grit or anything in the bottom of the 10 year old pan.

I have 2500 miles on rotella syn. 5w40 and It is still pretty clean. p.o. must have kept the oil changed regularly. At work I drove a 7.3 powerjoke and a 6.2 shivy diesel and as soon as the oil was changed it turned blacker than a coal bucket.
