Oil Pressure Gauge

My oil pressure guage reads the same all the time....65 mph or idleing, it stays at the 3/4 mark (the last tic above the 40 on the gauge). :-

1) Where is the oil pressure sending unit?
2) How is the best way to test to see if it's the sending unit or the gauge?

Thanks in Advance for Your Help,
CR

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

did you buy your truck new?

if not, the previous owner could have had the computer flash that makes OPguage read 40psi no matter what its reading.

Yes, I bought it new. It had always dropped while idling until a few days ago.

Thanks for the picture!

I didn't know where it was, but I knew it wouldn't be easy to get to.

Thanks Again,

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

Since I need to change my oil pressure sending unit, I thought I may as well change the fuel filter while I'm at it.
Is there a thread out there with instruction on changing the filter? ??? I've changed filters on gassers, but never on my Cummins.

Also, is there a code set when the oil pressure sending unit goes bad? ???

Thanks,
CR

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

Just happened to have one extra Fuel Filter left so I went and grabbed the instructions out of it. I scanned it to my computer so I hope you can read this. Someone else may know of a website that has them but this came right from my Fleetguard Fuel Filter.

Fleetguard P/N is: FS19528 and I think thats the same for yours. I have a 98.5.

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

ok, if I can remember correctly when I did it. I changed the filter, put everything back together and turned the key to the on position and bump the starter and you should be able to hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. When it stops, turn the key off and turn it back on it and bump it again and it will do the same thing. Do this once more then try to roll it over. When I did it, it didnt fire the first few times so I let it set and kept running the pump and finally she fired up. I was worried for a few minutes but just be patient!

I FOUND IT!!!! Check this out and see if it works:

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

That sounds easy enough. I thought maybe you had to open one of the fittings on top.

Thanks for the info.........

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

HOLY...MOLY!

I just went by South Plains Cummins in Mesquite, Texas to see about getting my oil pressure sending unit replaced. The guy told me it was a Dodge part, but if I got it, they would install it and save me a little money.
Then came the shocker .......I called two Dodge dealers and both gave me a price of $187 for the unit and $66 for installing it!
Does that sound right? That's a lot of $$$ for a little screw in part!

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

I dont know if thats right on price but see if you can get the part number and search online. I'll be you can find it cheaper. If you give me the part number, I will try to help you. I found cheap dodge parts on this website but not sure if they have the cummins parts.

http://www.dodgeparts.cc/

I know there is more good dodge sites out there.

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

Thanks for the response.

I'll check Geno's later and see if I can find a part number. I'm so ****** at Dodge, I don't even want to ask them for the part number. There has to be something a little more reasonable out there.
