Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

I heard of a guy purchasing this exact thing through Cummins Power Systems out of Glen Burni, MD for around $38. Give them a call and ask them. Their number is 1-800-783-7061
or 410-590-8700.

I believe the part numbers for this sensor are:

Cummins: 408428
Mopar: 5012991ab

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

I called Cummins Power Systems and they also told me it was a Dodge part. :-[

I'm going to feel really ripped off if I end up paying $187 for a $30 part just because Dodge "has the Power" to do it. > >

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

Hi,

I had this same problem back in July. I don't know how to put a link to the thread in here. But if you do a search for a thread called "Oil Pressure Question?" you will find all the information you need for a 1999. I think it was in the 24v forum or search for posts by me, there are not many. This includes how to change the sensor and part numbers and costs. Also what I think the flash is about.

Hope this helps.
Randy

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

[move] ;D ;D ;D DTR.Com Rules!* ;D ;D ;D[/move]

I'll try to keep this short, but it's such a great story.

I can't thank all of you enough for helping me find the fix for my oil pressure sending unit. I got it replaced today for $83.99 and the installation was FREE.

I used the part number you guys provided and found out that South Plains Cummins in Dallas did indeed have a part by that number. Since I didn't want to buy a bunch of tools, I asked if they would install it. The guy was very nice, but said they were backed up and couldn't get to it. Jerry, at South Plains Cummins in Mesquite (the other side of Dallas) told me yesterday that if I found one, he would get it put in. I called and he said to bring it on over. I asked how much to install, and he said "A cold Dr Pepper". Twenty minutes later I walked into his office and sat the Dr Pepper on the corner of his desk. He just looked up and grinned.
Jerry has been working with Cummins for several years and he didn't know that they carried a sensor that would work in an ISB. He had me pull my truck up beside the shop, and called one of his guys out. They looked at it and said the best way to get to it was from the bottom. I chirped in (using my recently aquired (sp) knowledge from DTR) that it was easier to get to it through the fender well with a long extension. They were impressed. Five minutes later, it was done.
These guys were super cool and did not come on as know-it-alls like most of the Dodge people I have delt with.

I summary, you guys help me save $187! Plus, I had the chance to "meet" some really nice guys out there in DTR Land and met some folks at a Cummins dealer that will get all my future business.

Thanks Again,
CR

Re:Oil Pressure Gauge

Just replaced the oil pressure sending unit today. It requires a 32 mm or 1 and 1/4 inch deep socket. The price at Cummins was $70. It took about 10 minutes to change, however it works best if you have a mirror to see what you are doing as it is almost impossible to see the unit from above. The torque is very small when retightening. There is a three prong wire to the sending unit.

The gauge had flipped it lid going from zero to very high, to zero to high on and on, each time the little chime went off and the red 'check gages' light illuminated. From what I read here and on TDR I tend to think the sending unit is more of a maintenance item that requires attention every so often. Mine went out at 46,000 miles. The first time the gauge went to zero I was very surprised but knew the engine had oil and I had remembered posts here and in TDR about the sending units. I don't like driving with an oil pressure gauge reading zero. It is just not right.
