Oil Light On when Idle!!

Hello.

I just ran into this huge problem and can use any help/advice possible.

I have a 1996 Dodge Cummins 2500 (inline 6). When driving the oil pressure meter is fine, however, if I stop, the presure goes down and the oil light turns red (goes on). I have also noticed that my breaks seem much harder.

I have checked the oil level and it is in the 'safe' zone.

Thanks for any help, as I think this may be a very serious problem!

As long as the engine isn't making unusual noises, it's probably just the sending unit, common problem, replace it.

Does your idle seem low? should be 840 rpm in gear (auto) with the a/c on.

It's down by the power steering pump, on the block , you should see it. Or do a search for it , and you will find a picture.

Just for fun, I would check your idle speed before I put the sender in as mentioned above, you may not need it. Here is how to do it. Click

I located the oil sending unit, but cannot seem to get it off. Is there a special tool to get this piece off?
Thank you so much for your help!

have you noticed the posts to check your idle speed. it would explain the low oil pressure and your brakes getting hard(not turning the vacume pump enough.
