Oil Filter change

1st post. haven't read all the "rules" but could use a quick answer so I can get my work done before the Mother's day festivities begin.

1995 Ram 2500 Diesel. My first do it yourself oil change. Bought a strap type wrench. Filter is very snug so I stopped reefing on it.
I noticed a small bolt on top of the housing (near the turbo oil line). Does this need to be removed to loosen the filter?

Thank-you

I have a 2001 and there is also a bolt at the top in the location you mention. I don't need to loosen that bolt at all. Sometimes, though, the filter can be really...really tight. For me it works best to apply a continuously increasing amount of pressure until it starts to spin. If a dealer or service station put the last filter on your truck it may be very tight. Occasionally I have to get red in the face to get it off

I do all my oil and filter changes so if it is too tight I have only myself to blame.

Good luck

I don't put mine back on any tighter than I can get it by hand(s). Been doing it this way for 50,000 miles with no trouble. This way with a little grunting it will come off again by hand.

If you remove the air filter to turbo air duct it will allow more room to work on the filter. Just make sure that you get the duct all the way on and tightened good when your done. I usally spray a little silicone on the ends of the duct to help it seal.
