oil cooler gasket-which one?????HEEELP!!!

in the gasket kit cummins sells there are 2 differant gaskets that could be used. The one that goes against the block is obivios, then a a steel plate, then an other gasket. This is where confusion raises it's ugly head.there are 2, one is the right one, one is the wrong one...one has a slot cut into it for the oil regulater valve the other has 2 holes, 1 in the top by the valve, and one at the bottom. I talked to cummins and a couple other people and no one knows ..the ans. was put back in what I took out. That ans is not good enough as I have already had one eng. melt dwn.
they do know that the wrong one dose not let theoil go thrue the cooler..HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!please

Are there any kind of passages that line up with one gasket and not the other? If the cooler was pulled it should be somewhat easy. If it isn't then I don't know what to do short of pulling it and seeing which one it takes. Hopefully someone else who knows will chime in.

Re:oil cooler gasket-which one?????HEEELP!!!

I used the one with the 2 holes on my 12 valve rather than the one with the solid slot, if that helps any :. What happened to the old gasket? If you still have it just compare ...and replace with the similar gasket . Im not 100% sure but I think the gasket with the slot is for the 1st gen. trucks. Reason being, there was a lot of different gaskets in my kit for the 1st gen. trucks.
Hope this helps
Scott

Use the gasket with the two holes on the outside, next to the filter adaptor plate. You will see the corresponding oil passages that line up on the cooler plate and on the adaptor.
