not the ecm, no start
Still I have the same problem, I allways have good fuel pressure, my diesel guy test every thing, code 1689, checked all the wiring, cleaned them, it all pointed to the ecm, got one from the place down in Texas, auto ecm, put it in, stated fine 4 times, then would not start, I think it mostly when the engine is warm, i think it has done it to me when cold, I pressurized but no air is getting in. My diesel guy got a code to the pcm but cleaned the connection and it went away, anyone have this problem, im open to anything
thanks

If it were me.......there is a test tool at the dealer that can take the wiring and ECM out of the loop. I would drive it until warm so that I could get your truck to where it doesn't start, unhook the VP and install the test tool. If the truck doesn't start with the test tool hooked up you would be getting a VP. If it does start you'll need to look at the wiring and ECM side of things. Another thing you can try is when it's warm, get a transmission fluid funnel (long, small spout) and poor some cool water over the pump. If it starts after that, I would be looking at a VP.

you say its the vp but i can start it up when it cold, and drive to new york and back with out any problems, im in RI, which i did, with no power loss at any rpm, and towing a 6,000lb trailer.and alway good fuel psi, i jsut can get it going when it is warm for a hour. i here storys about trucks stopping on the highway when there driving, becouse they don;t know there psi, so then there vp is dead, im thinking a sensor not working right when warm. any help please, i had a code 1689, i know what it means, think its still thowing the same now
thanks Brian

.....which is where the special tool I mentioned above would come in handy. Sometimes when these trucks hot soak probs will arise. Try the cool water trick. I've started a few trucks over the years that were towed in no start by doing that. They got VP's.

Let's see,
Only code you are getting is 1689, no others?
Hard starts when warm usually means the IP is going south.
What edge do you have?
Any hesitations or stalling when driving?
Answer Q's and I will get back with you.

I will scan it tomarow to see if i still have the same 1689 code. Last time i scaned it, it was only 1689. just the Power Edge EZ is a plug-in module. It will start every time when cold or if i do short trips and not let it get real hot, Like if i run it for a 45 min or more and then i shut it down then it will not start. A good 2 hours where everthing is cold again, it starts. But when it starts, not hesitations or stalling, it has never stalled on me, i pull my 6,000lb skid steer on the highway down shift to 4th, rpms go up, it pulls like a diesel should. Thats way i don;t thinks the IP, everone who had there IP go, it stalls, or power loss when they it the gas, my truck run fine just like the day i got it. I alway had good fuel psi, im the only one that drive the truck, so i know. Hope this help, thank you guys for all the help. I get you new code up date tomarow. thanks Copenhagenjunkie

Based on your response it has to be the VP. Reason I asked about the edge is I just took my ez in to get it checked. I was getting the 1689 code and severe hesitations and stalling. I ran w/o it for 500+ miles with no problems. I even put it on a friends '99 on friday and it did the same thing in about 3 miles so I drove down to Ogden to the Edge headquarters.
Sorry, time to start shopping.

kxhonda has a thread in this forum also and he is having basically the same problems as you are. If you don't think its the vp I would start looking for a bad heat or temp sensor. In kxhonda situation his lift and Injection pumps were already replaced and he is having the same problems as you.
It's electrical. Where? What changes in the electrical system when it cools down? If I recall there's a computer in the pump? Heat expansion? Or other wires or connectors coatings getting hot and letting in or out electrical current. What sensor when hot won't let the motor start IAT, MAP, Fuel temp? Try the water over the Fuel pump (VP44) if that fixes it, that's probably it.
