Don't know if this will work on a 95, but on an 02 a gauge check is done like this.
Hold the odometer reset know in, and turn the key on. The odometer window should come up and say "chec" and then do a snake dance. All the lights should come on. The gauge will go up, like 1/4 1/2 and all the way up. Like the spedo will show 120. Not sure what this would tell you except the instrument panel is working.
Let us know what you find.

sounds like you got the same issue i have sort of. i have a broken wire some where not letting my Tach work no Alternator , getting lots of codes that sensor output to high ECT.

the way to get codes on the 95 is key on key of key on key off key on and watch the check engine light it will flash the codes. 23 will be 2 blinks followed by a short pause then 3 more blinks. but if your check engine light does not come on then you can't pull codes either.
